

The photo (from a postcard) is dated by the year "1912" picked out in flowers around the base of a fountain (yellow circle). It shows the city hall cab stand from James Street looking toward Main.
In 1912 the horse cab era was quickly drawing to a close. The two cabs parked on the stand (yellow box) are among the last survivors of a business in decline. Automobiles like the one in the foreground were already transforming Winnipeg and Manitoba.
