Roland Bergeron Montréal, QC / April 14, 1977
Bergeron, 62, picked up a 20-year-old man on April 14. The man was carrying a loaded .22 revolver in a paper bag and shot Bergeron four times in the head and twice in the abdomen. He claimed to have acted in "self defence" when Bergeron allegedly grabbed the bag.
At the time of the murder the killer was out on bail awaiting trial for his role in the stabbing death of Roger Arsenault, a 16-year-old store clerk. The killer was convicted of both murders and sentenced to concurrent life terms, eligible for parole in 18 years.
Less than 16 years later, in 1992, the man was paroled and disappeared shortly afterward. He remained at large until January 1994, when he was stabbed by a prostitute in a Vancouver hotel.
In trouble with the law since he was 12, the killer had 20 convictions by the time he killed Bergeron.
