Ralph Caruso
Whitehorse, YU / Aug. 11, 1952

Ralph Caruso, 26, a native of Abbotsford B.C., was shot in the back of his head by one of two taxi passengers. Apparently Caruso was shot after he refused to drive his killer 1,500 miles to Prince Rupert, B.C.

Witnesses found two men in the back seat of the taxi, deserters from the Canadian army and air force respectively, who each accused the other of the killing. Both men were charged with murder.

The air force deserter handed a revolver to the witnesses, claiming that he had seized it after his companion fired two shots at Caruso. He was acquitted but the other accused, the 21-year-old army deserter, was convicted of murder and sentenced to hang.
