Roland Faucher Québec, QC / Oct. 13, 1950
On the night of Friday/Saturday Oct. 13/14, 1950, 35-year-old Roland Faucher was seen talking to a young man about a trip to L'Ile d'Orleans on the outskirts of the city. Later that night farmers on the island found Faucher unconscious in his cab with a bullet wound to the head. His empty wallet lay on the ground nearby.
Faucher was taken to a city hospital but despite his serious condition staff refused to admit him without knowing who would pay for his care. They finally relented when a taxi driver who accompanied Faucher guaranteed that the hospital bill would be covered by the Association des chauffeurs de taxi de Québec. The taxi committee of the Québec city council later passed a resolution drawing the provincial health minister's attention to the case.
Faucher died a few hours later. At the coroner's inquest on Tuesday police revealed that they were seeking a 27-year-old native of Minto, New Brunswick as a suspect in the homicide.
