Gerdina "Jeri" Kruidbos
Edmonton, AB / Dec. 3, 1981

Jeri Kruidbos, 34, disappeared about 11:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 3, 1981, after picking up a fare at the Continental Inn in Jasper Place. Her body was found two days later by a resident who was investigating a cab parked behind his house. Kruidbos was in the back seat of the cab. She had been sexually assaulted and stabbed to death.

Kruidbos was last heard from when the dispatcher asked if there was a cab available near Castle Downs. Kruidbos radioed that she was just making change at 134th Avenue and 118th Street, indicating that she would shortly be available for the trip. However, she never contacted the dispatcher again.

Like Lucie Turmel, Kruidbos had come to Alberta from Montréal. She had owned her own cab for five years and was described as "an excellent driver, personality-wise. She handled people quite well. She preferred to drive nights. She liked the people and the work. She was more or less a night person."

About 350 cab drivers attended the funeral. Kruidbos's parents, brothers and sisters flew in from Montréal, Miami and Calgary.

The case remained unsolved. In 1989 Edmonton police reviewed the case to determine if any new leads had emerged.
