Robert LeBlanc
Pictou, NS / Jan. 2, 1998

LeBlanc, a 53-year-old father of three, was strangled with a wire and beaten to death with a hammer by two boys aged 15 and 16. They then drove LeBlanc's cab, with his body in the trunk, to a girlfriend's home where they played pool.

The robbery netted them $65 and a package of cigarettes. In July, 1999 one of them, by then 18, was convicted of LeBlanc's murder and sentenced to life in prison.

His accomplice was also sentenced to life, but both were to be eligible for parole within seven years. The incident inspired the song "Taxi Phone" by Nova Scotia musician Dave Gunning and is recorded on his CD "Caught Between Shadows".
