Mehdi Nasnain Naqvi
Vancouver, BC / March 18, 1999

Naqvi, 53 and the father of a baby daughter, was stabbed three to six times by the 22-year-old nephew of a prominent Winnipeg businessman.

The killer had recently moved to Vancouver and was refused welfare due to his short residence there. He claimed he was desperate for money and stabbed Naqvi during a struggle after a botched robbery attempt.

Naqvi drove away after the attack but blacked out. The killer was found hiding in nearby bushes by a police dog. He was initially charged with attempted murder but the charge was raised to second degree murder after Naqvi was removed from life support. The killer was convicted of manslaughter in June, 2000.
