Rai, 49, was the father of two sons, one of them disabled. He was stabbed in the neck by a 20-year-old man after handing over $90. Rai died in hospital on Jan. 2 after giving police a description of his assailants.

The 20-year-old was convicted of second degree murder in February, 2001 and sentenced to life in prison with no possibility of parole for 13 years. In January his 19-year-old accomplice was sentenced to 10 years for manslaughter for his role in the crime.
