2C. Month / Day of Month

This section and the sections on Day of Week and Day of Year attempt to determine if there is time-related pattern to homicides. Chart 2C-1 (below) shows homicides (total and Category A by month. It would appear from the chart that the majority of homicides from 1917 to 2005 have occurred in October and November. However, there does not seem to be a practical driver safety application for this information. Homicidal attacks can occur at any time so advice to be more wary at particular times of the week, month or year is hardly helpful. Being less wary at other times could be fatal.
Table 2C-2 shows the same data as Chart 2C-1:
The data for Day of Year seems to give a somewhat more precise time frame for homicides occurring in September through December.
