André Chalifoux, 38, was a taxi driver in Mont-Laurier, about 190 km (118 miles) northwest of Montréal. He lived in Saint-Jean-sur-le Lac, a few kilometes west of Mont-Laurier. He was last seen on Sunday evening, November 24, 1985, parked on a taxi stand in downtown Mont-Laurier. At about 2 o'clock on Monday afternoon a pedestrian discovered Mr. Chalifoux's body in a ditch near the end of Bon Amie Street. He had been beaten to death and robbed. His taxi was found a short distance away on a neighbouring street.
