Arthur Gough

St. Catharines, Ontario / December 22, 1949

Arthur Gough, 27, drove for Five-0 Taxi in St. Catharines but he was in Welland on December 22, 1949. At about 8 p.m. he picked up a fare at a beverage room in midtown Welland. He was not seen again until his body was found in the suburb of Crowland township. He was lying in a ditch a few feet from his abandoned cab, his skull crushed. His death came only about a week after the discovery of Welland taxi driver Sam Delibasich's body.

A 19-year-old unemployed theatre usher and labourer was arrested for the murder, but a grand jury found insufficient evidence to bring him to trial.
