Ronald Jack Henderson

Halifax, Nova Scotia / April 5, 1986

At about 10:50 p.m. on Saturday, April 5, 1986, Armdale Taxi driver Ronny Henderson picked up two young men on Herring Cove Road, Halifax.

A short time later, in front of 90 Withrod Drive in suburban Spryfield, witnesses saw Mr. Henderson involved in an altercation with his two passenger outside the taxi.

The two men attacked Mr. Henderson, stabbing him multiple times. Then they drove away in the cab.

The two suspects were described as young white males in their late teens or early twenties, with long hair.

Mr. Henderson was transported to a hospital where he died of his injuries. His cab was later found abandoned in a local school parking lot.

Mr. Henderson, 29, was a carpenter by trade. He had worked for Armdale Taxi for five years. He was married with two young daughters, one aged six years old and the other 18 months old.

Mr. Henderson had no life insurance. A trust fund was established in aid of his family.

About 500 people attended his funeral and about 200 cabs followed the hearse in pouring rain as it drove through Spryfield to Fairview Cemetery.

In 2015, nearly 30 years later, the case is still unsolved. The Nova Scotia Department of Justice continues to offer a $150,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of his killers. [Next column]
