Kin Sing Kwong

Iroquois Falls, Ontario / July 3, 1992

Mr. Kwong, 36, came to Canada from Hong Kong with his wife and six year old daughter. Soon after arriving he purchased a taxi business in Iroquois Falls.

Around midnight on July 2/3, 1992, Mr. Kwong's wife dispatched him to the Capitol Hotel in Iroquois Falls to pick up a fare. Ten minutes later he radioed that he was heading to the Nellie Lake area.

Mr. Kwong's body was found on the morning of July 3 near the lake. He had been severely beaten and his skull had been crushed with a 20-kilogram boulder.

Two men were charged with the murder. One of them, aged 21, confessed that he and his accomplice had deliberately called Mr. Kwong because he was new to Iroquois Falls and was unfamiliar with the Nellie Lake area.

The killer claimed that he hit Mr. Kwong on the back of the head with a wine bottle. Mr. Kwong fell out of the cab and then struggled with his assailants before being killed. The robbery netted $20.

Earlier in the evening the killer and his accomplice consumed most of a 40-ounce bottle of rum and the killer had injected himself with rum to increase its effect. The killer was sentenced to 11 years in prison for his role in the murder.
