André Léon Lorge

Montréal, Québec / April 28, 1953

On the night of April 27/28 1953, Mr. Lorge picked up two men on Mansfield Street, one 40 years old and the other a 20-year-old former hotel busboy.

After they had driven to two different places, the men robbed Mr. Lorge of his money and ordered him out of the cab.

When Mr. Lorge resisted, the 40-year-old man shot him with a revolver his accomplice passed to him. Both suspects were arrested the next day.

The 40-year-old was convicted of murder and sentenced to death. A few days before his scheduled execution the sentence was commuted to life in prison.

The 20-year-old was convicted of manslaughter and sentenced to life imprisonment. His appeal on the grounds that he was too drunk to know what he was doing was dismissed.
