Avram Marcovici

Montréal, Québec / July 27, 1972

Avram Marcovici, 58, had been a Diamond Taxi driver since at least 1969. He was married but had no children.

On July 27, 1972, he got into a dispute over a parking space on Van Horne Avenue with a 28-year-old man. The man attacked Mr. Marcovici and beat hime so severely that he died of his injuries five and a half months later, on January 11, 1973.

Initially Mr. Marcovici's assailant was charged with "grievous assault." He was freed on a $1,000 bond provided by his employer.

In October, 1973, the assailant was charged with manslaughter. He pleaded not guilty and, pending a preliminary inquiry, was freed on another $1,000 bond provided by his parents.

Mr. Marcovici is buried in Baron de Hirsch - De La Savane Cemetery in Montréal.
