Albéric Proulx

Baie Comeau, Québec / November 23, 1974

At about 1:30 a.m on Saturday, November 23, 1974 a taxi driver picked up two young men in Baie Comeau.

The driver was 49-year-old Albéric Proulx who drove for Taxi Deluxe. The men gave their destination as Chutes-aux-Outardes, about 12 miles (20 km) south-west of Baie Comeau.

At about 7 a.m. Mr. Proulx's lifeless body was found in a ditch at the end of a country road near Ragueneau, well beyond Chutes-aux-Outardes. His taxi was parked about 1,000 feet (300 metres) from his body.

Mr. Proulx had been shot three times in the head with a .22 calibre gun. The killers got away with only $25.

It took police three and a half years to track down the killers who by now were 24 and 21 years old. Originally from Baie Comeau, the pair moved to the Montréal area after the murder.

The 24-year-old was convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison. The 21-year-old was convicted of manslaughter and sentenced to four years.
