Unknown St. Catharines, Ontario / September 23, 2023 Shortly before 5 a.m. on Saturday, September 23, 2023 a motorist discovered a grey 2016 Toyota Corolla taxicab stopped on Eastchester Avenue near Lorne Street in St. Catharines, Ontario. The driver's door was open and the driver was lying in the road several feet away from the taxi.
Police responded to the call at 4:43 a.m. The unconscious victim had suffered a "critical injury" and was taken first to a local hospital and later to an out-of-region hospital for treatment. He succumbed to his wound on September 27.
A neighbour woman later reported being awakened by a noise at 5 a.m. but did not learn what had happened until she saw the flashing lights and watched an ambulance drive slowly away escorted by police.
She later laid a large bouquet of flowers on the road where the victim was found, partly out of respect and partly to hide the pool of blood.
Police officers and a canine unit searched the area but did not find a suspect.
Residents in the vicinity with closed-circuit security cameras, doorbell video cameras, or dash cameras were asked to review footage for suspicious activity for the period between 3 a.m. and 5 a.m. on Saturday morning.

Three years after the taxi driver's death Niagara Redional Police still had not released his name but gave his age as 58 years old.
