Picture (left): Woman taxi driver changing inner tube.

This is apparently one of the original photos taken for the postcard on the next page. Fixing a flat was a major operation, especially if there were no spare tire available (this taxi had no spare, judging by other pictures in the series).

The inner tube held by the male driver is likely a spare tube which would at least save the trouble of patching a puncture, but the old tube would still have to be replaced and the tire at least partially dismounted from its wheel.
