Picture (left): Cabbie, are you free? The gentleman with the cane poses a foolish question while the exasperated cab driver gropes for a suitably sarcastic reply. This card and the previous one are part of a ten-card series produced by Albert Bergeret, a former photolithographer based in Nancy. Bergeret began publishing postcards in 1898. By 1900 he was selling 25 million cards a year and by 1909 100 million.
