There was not much that an affronted bourgeois could do with an insolent cab driver. In some cities (like Winnipeg) a cab driver could theoretically be fined for insulting a passenger, but police were not very interested in enforcing such provisions. On the other hand, if a bourgeois refused to pay the fare he could be haled into court by the cab driver.
