Picture (left): Mme. Moser. – Being a cab driver doesn't prevent her from lovingly mending her husband's socks while waiting for a customer.

In this picture Mme. Moser doesn't look much like the cigarette-smoking rebel we saw earlier. But women engaged in nontraditional jobs have often been accused of abandoning their femininity. This photo was apparently intended to counter that accusation.

A woman darning a man's socks was a stereotype of domesticity but a man darning his own socks meant something much different as we will see later. (Humour, 9)
