Unlike his real life counterparts, Black Beauty survives two stints as a cab horse and lives to dictate his memoirs in comfortable retirement.

Anna Sewell earned only twenty pounds from Black Beauty. A lifelong invalid, she died soon after her book was published in 1878 and before she had any inkling of the impact it was to achieve.
