Person of interest sought in death

By Ken Little
Staff Writer

Jesse Faison Jr. was well-liked and had no known enemies, so
friends and neighbors of the Duplin County man were shocked
when he was found dead inside his cab early May 25 on Cool
Springs Road south of Kenansville.

Investigators from the Duplin County Sheriff's Office said Faison,
63, died of a gunshot wound. They want to speak to a man seen
in the area of the Warsaw Piggy Wiggly supermarket the day
before Faison's death as a "person of interest," Capt. Stanley
Jones said.

The sheriff's office released a composite sketch. The man isn't
considered a suspect in the murder, but investigators believe he
may have some knowledge of the crime.

Deputies think Faison may have been killed late on May 24.
Faison was found sitting in the driver's seat of his cab, which was
not running but in the roadway in a rural area off N.C. 50.

Faison was known to give rides to people who didn't have
money, just so they could get home.

"He was a well-known fixture here in the Warsaw community,
and everybody thought a lot of him," Jones said. "He didn't
bother anybody."

There is a reward for information leading to the arrest and
conviction of Faison's killer. Investigators would also like to
speak with anyone who saw Faison with a fare on May 24 or may
know where he drove that day.

Faison's family needs answers, and authorities hope the public
can assist.

"He was very highly regarded," Jones said. "We would like to
bring some closure to the family."

Office at 296-2150.
