CAB DRIVER SLAIN IN ALGIERS MOTIVE A MYSTERY
GUNMAN LEFT MONEY BEHIND

Russell P. LeNormand, 42, of Algiers, a driver for West Bank Marrero
Cab Co., was found slumped over the wheel of his taxi shortly after 10
p.m. in the parking lot of Evergreen Market, in the 3000 block of Sandra
Drive.

Two of the cab's doors were open and the engine was running when
police arrived, said Sgt. Pat Peyton, police spokesman. LeNormand had been
shot in the head several times, Peyton said.

About 9:35 p.m., a cab company dispatcher called a woman in the Live
Oak Apartments who had requested a cab to tell her that LeNormand was on
his way. But the woman said she no longer needed the cab and asked the
dispatcher to cancel it.
