Sun Star (Philippines) (July 13, 2007 Cabbies cry justice for slain colleague By Carlo P. Mallo TAXI drivers in Davao City are crying justice over the killing of one of their colleagues Wednesday. Around 20 taxi drivers, mostly of the Alah Reeya taxi company, protested Thursday in front of the Angel Funeral Homes along F. Torres Street, Davao City, where their colleague is being interred. Bearing slogans on their taxi cabs, the drivers pleaded with Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte to help bring justice to the slain cabbie. One of their slogans read, "Asa man ang hustisya mayor (Mayor, where is justice?)" Felesio Mallas, a taxi driver, was killed in front of the Land Transportation Office-Southern Mindanao after attending a hearing on charges of overcharging. Mallas was alleged to have overcharged one of his passengers. He was briefly detained at the San Pedro Police Station. One of the taxi drivers, who requested anonymity for fear of reprisal, said Mallas had not committed any wrongdoing against anyone. He said the victim was summarily executed because it was believed that someone had left a huge sum of money in his cab, not for the overcharging. The money, however, was not returned to the owner. It was also learned that the money was actually left in a Holiday Taxi, not in an Ayah Reeya taxi unit.
