Minicab driver found dying in street in south London

A minicab driver has been found dying in the street in south London, prompting a murder appeal by police.

Officers were called to Cookhill Road, Abbey Wood, just before 0500 BST on Saturday and found 49-year-old Michael Okonko-Nwoso with head injuries.

Mr Okonko-Nwoso, who was married with children, was taken to Royal London Hospital where he died the same day.

Det Ch Insp Dave Manning said Mr Okonko-Nwoso had been a licensed cab driver for a south-east London firm.

Collapsed behind cab

He said: "He was a law-abiding hard working family man who has been brutally murdered in the street whilst carrying out his everyday business.

"It is essential that anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious in the area around that time on Saturday morning does come forward.

"We must keep an open mind regarding any motive at this early stage."

Mr Okonko-Nwoso, of Plumstead, was found collapsed behind his minicab, a silver Ford Galaxy, with its doors open, but nothing had been stolen.

Two men, aged 27 and 28, were arrested the same day and later bailed.
