Joyce lived in Trieste for several years between 1904 and 1920. The statue, unveiled on October 19, 2004, represents Joyce walking across the Canal Grande toward his home in Piazza Ponterosso.

Meet Your Guide

At the outset, I guess I should state my own credentials as a Ulysses expert. This is easily done: they are zilch, nada, bobkes.

Not only haven't I read Ulysses all the way through, I haven't read any of it other than the parts containing the references in these pages, and I got those by cribbing (see Selected Sources).

Hey, the book is nearly 800 pages of heavy going and life is just too darn short.
