Joseph Pasztor

London, Ontario / January 8, 1985

Joseph Pasztor, 55, was found shot to death in his taxi on January 8, 1985.

Three males aged 15, 16 and 17 were subsequently arrested and charged with first degree murder. The three intended to skip out of the cab without paying the fare, but on leaving one of them shot Mr. Pasztor in the head.

The 17-year-old pleaded guilty to second degree murder and was sentenced to life imprisonment with no chance of parole for 15 years.

The Crown applied to raise the 15-year-old to adult court. In granting the application the Ontario Provincial Court noted that the accused "had a lengthy criminal record and, although he was not mentally ill, the prognosis for curbing his behaviour was poor in the absence of a structured setting. The accused had completely failed at school and in the community notwithstanding considerable professional support. The interests of society demanded protection from the accused's pattern of increasingly frequent deviance and resistance to correction."

Both the 15-year-old and the 16-year-old were found guilty of robbing but not killing Mr. Pasztor.
