D.J. Patterson owned the Palace in 1890. The tiny people and horses make the stable look much grander, a common trick used by advertisers at the time. See the Queen's Hotel picture at Dave Storey for another example.

The Palace (2)

The Palace passed through the hands of a number of owners, ending with Dublin Dan and his partners in the Winnipeg Cab Company.

By 1911 the horse cab and stable businesses were being destroyed by the private automobile and the taxi. Dublin Dan and his partners were not able to unload their cab business, but they did sell the Palace. In 1912 the building was torn down and replaced by a garage called the Palace Auto Livery.

The new Palace later became the Winnipeg Tribune's garage and survived until the newspaper went out of business in 1980. The site is now (2012) a parking lot.
