Glen Earl Dunlop Regina, Saskatchewan / July 29, 1973 On July 28, 1973 a prisoner at the Regina Correctional Centre was given a pass to attend an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting but following the meeting he visited a number of bars where acquaintances bought him drinks or gave him money to buy alcohol. He wound up taking a room at the Kitchener Hotel.
At about 5:30 a.m. on July 29 Mr. Dunlop was dispatched to the Kitchener Hotel in response to a call on the Buffalo Cabs direct line. He picked up the prisoner and another man and drove them to the 1800 block Rae Street.
Here the second man got out and the prisoner continued on with the cab. Mr. Dunlop first reported himself clear in the 1800 block Rae, but soon afterward told the dispatcher that he might be continuing on to the west side of the city.
The prisoner was seen driving Mr. Dunlop's cab by several witnesses, including two who were involved in a minor collision with him. He was still in possession of the cab when he was arrested.
On the afternoon of July 29 Mr. Dunlop's body was found in a patch of dense bush near a cottage at Katepwa Beach. He had been hit five or six times with a hammer. The hammer was still embedded in his skull.
The killer was seen driving Mr. Dunlop's cab by several witnesses, including two who were involved in a minor collision with him. He was still in possession of the cab when he was arrested.
The man eventually told police that he had seized a knife that he found in the glove compartment and used it to force Mr. Dunlop into the trunk of the car.

When Mr. Dunlop shouted for help, the killer opened the trunk and Mr. Dunlop tried to hit him with a hammer. He managed to take the hammer away from Mr. Dunlop and used it to bludgeon him to death.
The killer was convicted of murder; his appeal was dismissed.
