Davinder Singh

North Battleford, Saskatchewan / March 13, 2026

Davinder Singh, 30, was born in Daulatpura Neewan, a village in the Moga district of Punjab. He lived in Canada for nearly four years, having moved here to join his wife. The couple were married for about six years but had no children. They ran a cafe in North Battleford while Mr. Singh also drove a taxi for Crown Cab.

On Friday morning, March 13, 2026 Mr. Singh was dispatched to North Battleford's Hitching Post motel to pick up a woman. Unbeknownst to Mr. Singh, the woman had been held prisoner by two 19-year-old men. As she ran from the hotel to Mr. Singh's taxi, one of the men shot at her. The bullet hit Mr. Singh, wounding him fatally.

RCMP arrived on the scene at 7:45 a.m. They arrested the 19-year-old killer and his 19-year-old accomplice. The woman was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Mr. Singh was pronounced dead at the scene.

Haris Korath, one of the owners of Crown Cab described Mr. Singh as hard working.

"He had three jobs, Korath said. "He was working for his family. He was very nice to all of our drivers. He was not just a driver, he was an asset to Crown Cab. It's been three years he's been full-time. He never took a day off."

The 19-year-old killer was charged with first degree murder and weapons-related charges. His accomplice was charged with manslaughter. Both were also charged with forcible confinement of the female victim.

A GoFundMe page was set up in aid of Mr. Singh's family with a goal of $50,000. By March 23 nearly $30,000 had been raised.

Mr. Korath said that three drivers had left the company due to safety concerns following Mr. Singh's death. "We have only two drivers to work at night. We had six before. Everybody is scared," he said.

He also said that Crown Cab was now equipping the taxi fleet with cameras.

Mr. Singh's funeral was held on March 29, 2026, followed by a Peace of Light ceremony.
