Main Requirements
Designated Space
A disabled passenger must be able to get in and out of the vehicle and travel in it while remaining seated in their wheelchair. The wheelchair user must travel in a space designed for that purpose which is described in this document as the “designated space”.
Transferring from a wheelchair
The wheelchair user must also be able to transfer to a vehicle seat.

1. Entry to the vehicle
On all passenger doors the method of opening and direction of opening should be clearly marked on the inside and outside of the vehicle |

1.1 Adequate illumination must be provided at night avoiding any excessive pools of brightness/darkness. The following areas must be lit when passengers are boarding and alighting: |
Areas used by disabled passengers should be illuminated to an approximate level of 20 lux. |
This requirement is to help people with low vision to use vehicles safely at night. However, lighting should not be too bright so as to cause disorientation when getting out of the vehicle into, for example, a dark street. |

1.1.1 every entrance and exit step; |

1.1.2 the ground immediately outside any entrance or exit; |

1.1.3 the point in the vehicle where the fare is paid; and |
|
|

1.1.4 the passenger saloon. |
