FOR ACCOMPANYING GUIDANCE |
EXPLANATION |
2. Entry to the vehicle for ambulant disabled people. |
2.1 For ambulant disabled passengers the following must be met by a minimum of one doorway located on the nearside or rear of the vehicle; unless a swivel seat is fitted (see para 5): |
| 2.1.1 the height from the ground to the top of the door aperture must be a minimum of 1700mm; |
| 2.1.2 the aperture width between handrails must be a minimum of 600mm.
2.2 Where the nearest passenger seat intended for disabled people is up to 1000mm from the door threshold the headroom (measured from floor to ceiling) must be a minimum of 1400mm high with a clear passage to the seat of at least 420mm wide.
The headroom required is dependent upon the position of the passenger seat in relation to the entry door. A lower headroom is acceptable where the disabled passenger only has to move a short distance to the seat. |
| 2.3 Where the nearest passenger seat intended for disabled people is more than 1000mm from the door threshold the headroom (measured from floor to ceiling) must be a minimum of 1500mm with a clear passage to the seat of at least 420mm wide. |
| 2.4 The minimum headroom requirements at 2.2 and 2.3 must be measured 150mm inside the door. |
This allows for curvature of the roof. |
