In any case neither the gossip nor the hostile Ujság article had any discernible effect on Rachel's reception in Budapest or on her enjoyment of the attention.
On the day after her arrival, Saturday, May 26, wearing her now trademark boots, breeches and derby hat, Rachel went by car to a reception at the French embassy where she was received "with great ovation." (Pesti Napló)
Meanwhile Le Huppé was installed at Tattersall's, otherwise known as the Hungarian National Riding School. As soon as she could tear herself away from the embassy reception Rachel hurried to the stable to visit him.

On Sunday she attended a race meeting which featured steeplechase races and an exhibition of show jumping. She was accompanied by two counts, Count Elemé Batthyány and Count Albert Pejacsevich, and was given a special welcome by the management. (Esti Kurir, Budapesti Hirlap)
On Monday she was a guest at the polo matches on Margaret Island, a big public park that splits the Danube river into two streams. It was a major social event: "There has hardly been such a distinguished audience for a sporting event in Hungary as there was for the inaugural match of the Magyar Polo Club on Monday afternoon. Almost all members of the aristocracy living in Budapest appeared around the track...." (Az Est)
And then there was the banquet in her honour. The photos at left show Rachel at the head table flanked by dignitaries. These included Lt. Col. Louis André Jouart, the French embassy's military attaché< former Hungarian Minister of the Interior Iván Rakovszky; Duke Heinrich Borwin of Mecklenburg-Schwerin; and meteorologist and astronomer Ernö Massányi who was a pioneer in the development of Hungarian aviation.
Rachel's ten-day stay in Budapest was hosted by the Budapest Equestrian Association. When she left the city at 7:30 am on June 4, more than 20 members of the Association turned out to see her off and to escort her for about 30 kilometers. The escort included Iván Rakovszky and Lt.
