Marie and her horse Stuart both published memoirs: Une Femme de Cheval (A Horsewoman, 1933), and Stuart Cheval Raconte (Stuart the Horse Recounts, 1935). In 1936 when Marie could no longer afford to keep horses she opened a small bar in Avermes. During the occupation she was jailed for a month for selling drinks after hours, which in normal times would have cost her a fine at worst.
